Hello! I am Mavis 林, the self-taught embroidery artist behind curlyheadmakes, who has a love for tiny stitches and big ideas.
My work is rooted in storytelling: I translate memories, words, characters, and fleeting daydreams into delicate, hand-embroidered pieces. Through this slow-made process, I explore how threads can hold emotion and connect imagination to material form. Every piece is stitched by hand, by me, one thoughtful detail at a time.
Time and again, I do find that when you love what you do, that love will somehow find its way back to you—and something a little like magic happens.

BreadTalk IHQ reached out to see if I wanted to participate in their weekend event. I was so scared, but I decided to do it anyway. I remember it getting so windy when the doors opened that my newbie wire grids were close to flying off, and it made me very anxious.
My first textile piece. I remember the excitement I felt when I saw the piece in my mind and knew I had to take the chance and try to convince my client of my idea. Thus began a more proposal-based commission format and the start of an exhilarating artistic journey, where each piece is so different, yet one thing remains the same—it will always be made with love.

Trying to be an artist is hard. There is no denying it. I have plenty of moments of big doubts all the time so when I look at this photo taken at an event at Jewel with my past works and pieces, I am proud of myself for sticking to this thus far. I dont know what life will throw at me but whatever happens next, I am glad I gave this a shot.
